Music Workshops

Have you ever played an instrument? Do you have one sitting in the corner? Are you a trained musician who is not sure how to play without written music or play with others? Have you always wanted to play an instrument but thought you were not musical? Are you an experienced musician who would like to create from within? Imagine surrendering to the sound of your instrument without judgment.

Music Improvisation is creating music in the moment. It is deep listening to the sounds of your instrument and being guided by the sound. This helps take us out of our thinking mind, or the judge.  Then the magic begins.

Music Improvisation develops:

  • Skills in listening
  • Greater self-expression
  • Self-esteem
  • Connection with self and others
  • More spontaneity
  • Being in the moment
  • Musicianship skills
  • Playing from the heart

There are no wrong notes when we are creating our musical expression in the moment, yet there are tools for developing our inner music. In a music improvisation group or individual session you will discover and explore dynamics, textures, listening skills, the importance of silence, "the space in between the notes", communication, rhythm, melody, harmony, powerful soloing, how to support others musically and develop structures in eastern and western styles of music.

Begin with your breath. Warm up your body, stretching and moving spontaneously. Move toward the instrument you know so well or are fascinated with. If you can pick it up, move with it or dance toward it. Free yourself...Take a deep breath and play one note. Listen deeply to the sound. Repeat it or play another note. Continue one note at a time. Listen for the end.

No matter what your style, instrument, or musical experience, Lynn will assist you in finding your inner musician. She facilitates individual and group music improvisation groups at the Healing Arts Studio in Phoenixville, PA. The Healing Arts Studio is well equipped with keyboards, percussion instruments and stringed instruments from around the world.
